Happy Friday (we made it through another week)!
How do you know if therapy is working? Do you take an exam? Fill out a questionnaire? Do you wake up each day feeling “different”? Individuals who are in therapy or who have never been in therapy ask this question. And this is a valid question because you want to know what to expect when the process begins to work in your life. The differences seen are different for everyone because people seek counseling for a variety of reasons. Some couples go into counseling before they get married, other individuals are experiencing anxiety and are looking for the root cause of the symptoms, and others are stuck in the grief process years after a loved one has died.
This article by Jeff Guenther outlines changes you will see when therapy sessions with your counselor are working. He elaborates on examples such as feeling confident when obstacles show up in your life, improved relationships, and symptom relief. I don’t know about you but these sound like great reasons to go to therapy. Enjoy!
I would like to be clear that this blog post is not intended to substitute for professional counseling. If you are in need of support, please consider speaking to a professional counselor.
