Anxiety and Stress

What is mental health and how does it relate to counseling? Mental health involves many aspects of life such as your emotional, psychological, and social well-being which in turn affects how you think, feel, and act. Our mental health is connected to the way we work through stress and feelings of anxiety, how we relate to others, and make personal choices. Mental health is significant at every stage of life, from childhood to adolescence, and throughout adulthood. But what happens when your mental health needs help? Who do you turn to when everything you’ve tried in the past such as self-medicating with drugs and/or alcohol, retail therapy (excessive shopping), or unhealthy relationships does not work? A counselor works with you to help you identify your strengths, gain insight into your ways of thinking, feeling and behaving and begin a process of change and growth. The counseling relationship is unique in many ways. It’s structured specifically to assist clients in creating healthy and positive changes. To discuss counseling and how it may be helpful for you, reach out by phone or send me a message.

How do I know if I have anxiety or if I’m feeling anxious? Do you have symptoms such as racing thoughts, seeking reassurance from others, a pit in your stomach, or shallow breathing at times? Or maybe you feel your heart fluttering from time to time or you have problems falling asleep because your brain won’t slow down so you can rest? Feelings like these aren’t the only ones you may feel, but this list gives you a good idea of the emotional and physical aspects of anxiety. Have you experienced similar symptoms of anxiety before? If so, I can help.

Stress is usually described as a feeling of being overwhelmed or worried. Life itself can be stressful with all of the responsibilities we encounter on a regular basis. Do you wonder where you will get money to pay a particular unexpected expense? Or do you feel overwhelmed with the news you see on TV and online? Maybe you are so stressed out your body feels rundown and weak. If the worry you feel in your life has become more than you can handle, I can help.
